Yes you can - via email, a cloud service like DropBox or by using the iOS feature of file sharing. In order to save and/or edit the document - other than if you save the email that contains the file - you will need a third party app that is compatible with Excel files such as Apple's Numbers app, Documents to Go, Office2 HD etc. and others that you can find in the app store.

To quit (close) a Mac app normally, choose Quit from the app's menu in the menu bar, or press Command (⌘)-Q. If the app doesn't quit, follow these steps to force the app to quit.

Press these three keys together: Option, Command, and Esc (Escape). Or choose Force Quit from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. (This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.)
